I
came across a brilliant child by name Vinisha Umashanker who is a student of a
private school in Tiruvannamalai for designing a mobile ironing cart using
solar panels to power a steam iron box rather than the conventional charcoal.
She
has been awarded the prestigious Children’s Climate Prize. The Solar ironing
cart, can be powered by pre charged batteries, electricity or diesel powered
generators in the absence of sunlight.
According to her the benefit of solar ironing cart is that it eliminates
the need for coal for ironing. The vendors can move around and offer services
at the door step for increasing their daily earning. It has taken her
two months to come up with the design. As per the information received the cart
will charge in five hours and can be used for six hours. The solar ironing cart
was not the only innovation, it is said that she had developed a Smart Ceiling
Fan, which operates by itself using motion sensors.
It took her about two months to come up with the design. According to the reports, the cart will charge in five hours and can be used for six hours. The solar ironing cart was not Vinisha's first innovation. She had developed a Smart Ceiling Fan, which operates by itself using motion sensors. The reports also say that Vinisha has won the Dr A P J Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award after submitting a technical paper on the solar ironing cart. Now she has been shortlisted for the Prime Minister of India’s Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar 2021 – the highest civilian award in India for students under the age of 18.
She will also receive the prize from Swedish Krona, a diploma and medal from the Sweden-based Children’s Climate Foundation. She shares her experience about how she used to watch a man using charcoal to heat the heavy cast iron box for ironing, and seen how they had ironed her clothes several times. She observed that after ironing the clothes, the burnt charcoal was spread on the ground to cool and later thrown away along with garbage, and the damage caused to the environment and Mother Nature. Hence she researched for a solution and found that using solar power can be a substitute to charcoal, making use of renewable energy was the aim of innovation.
It is so encouraging to see a young girl’s commitment and passion to find solutions for matters concerning serious issues such as environment. She is definitely an inspiration spreading light in darkness. For more reading given below is the link:
