I am glad to participate along with my daughter and friends
for the 2k walk at Jalavihar, Necklace Road, Hyderabad on the 9 September, 2018
at 7 a.m. September 10th
being the International Suicide Prevention day, this year theme was "Working
Together to Prevent Suicide” The
representations were Institute of Mental Health, Private Psychiatric
Associations, PG Medical Psychiatry students, College Youth, NGOs and various
other associations. This event was represented by the #YWCAofsecunderabad.
The Chief Guest was Sri T Muralikrishna IPS,
Additional Commissioner of Police Admin & Coordination, Hyderabad city. The
guest of honor was Dr K Chandrasekhar, Chairman Telengana Psychiatric Hospitals
and Nursing homes Associations with special invitees Dr M S Reddy, National
President, Indian Psychiatric Society, Dr Umashanker, Past President Indian
Psychiatric Society Telengana State Branch. The dignitaries were welcomed Dr
George Reddy, Gen. Secretary, Indian Psychiatric Society Telengana state
branch.
The chief guest spoke about the need to
work together, and to create awareness for referrals in the city and also
stated that the police department wants to come up with a directory of
available services to help those in need and prevent suicide. All the
dignitaries on the dais shared the importance of preventing suicide and
spreading awareness at all levels.
What was most inspiring to me was a youth who
shared his personal life story : losing
his parents at an early age, he felt like an orphan and thought there is no one
here on this earth to love him and take care of him, feeling dejected, hopeless
he felt it was not worth living and was getting into depression and attempted
to end his life; at this point of time in his life, his aunt assured him and
helped him to take treatment with one of the psychiatrist in the city ( who was
present for the walk). He expressed his gratitude and said that there is always
help available and each one of us can make a difference wherever we are placed
in life.
I took opportunity to talk about the Sahayam
Counseling centre, Osmania University and the kind of issues we deal with. Also
about the #YWCAofsecunderabad (Young Women Christian Association) who respond
to various issues – I felt privilege to be working with the Indian Psychiatric
Association, Telengana State Branch who are connected with Sahayam & YWCA
of Secunderabad.
I am also eagerly looking forward to spread
awareness through Rainbow FM – All India Radio who have invited us to talk
about suicide on the occasion of the International Day on Suicide Prevention that
falls on the 10 September every year.
Few
quotes to inspire:
You have the power to say, “This is not how my
story will end.”
Place your hand over your heart, can you feel it?
That is called purpose. You’re alive for a reason so don’t ever give up.
Even
the darkest night will end and the sun will rise.
Suicide doesn’t end the pain, it just passes it on to someone
else.
“Suicide is a permanent solution to a temporary problem”.
Say Yes to Life! NO TO SUICIDE …
LETS JOIN HANDS TOGETHER TO PREVENT SUICIDE
TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
CHANGE LIVES & GIVE HOPE TO
EVERYONE AROUND
