M – Meditation

I was thinking of Mother, Me, Myself, and later on my visit to Marina Beach for letter M. I was not sure what to post , I was still thinking, there was a call from my friend, who just wanted to talk to me, and in the conversation hinted that I had not posted today, so I briefly told her what was on my mind, and then she casually mentioned M for Meditation.

I got the message, immediately I started writing a post on Meditation. I recall an experience years ago at my work place, wherein I was asked to get some information on Vipassana Meditation. In the process of finding out this information for another person. I got interested in this meditation.

Being curious I found out the information for myself, and for the first time in my life took it as my challenge, went for a 10 day course for Vipassana meditation, and learnt the art of mindfulness.  The focus of this meditation is self awareness and equanimity.

It was a very refreshing experience for me, and I enjoyed meditating so much, that I went for another two times to gain mastery on myself, and once with gratitude to serve as a volunteer. You will get more information on Vipassana Meditation  here http://www.dhamma.org

This was my first journey in learning the art of meditation; I  liked the concept and  I felt a lot lighter, and more positive towards life, and of course, I gained both knowledge and skill to continue meditating.

I practiced this meditation for a few years, and continued going every year  for the next two or three years, as a break from my routine life. With marriage, children and career, I found difficult to practice one hour of vipassana, and so  moved on to find simpler forms of meditation to keep myself going.

I explored other forms of meditation, and I came across Sudharshan Kriya, which is also a  form of meditation that makes us focus on our breathing patterns. Currently I am practicing daily for 30 minutes, and it been very beneficial for me, calming the mind, and also energizing the body.

I ensure that I meditate daily to keep calm and relaxed mind.  Even during my work time, when I feel stressed of listening, I take a small break and meditate focusing on my breath for few minutes. A few deep breathing exercises relaxes both body and mind. For more information, you can lot on http://www.artofliving.org/sudarshan-kriya.

I recommend to students who come to my centre nervous, frightened, anxious, restless,  tensed & unable to concentrate  to practice  meditation.

"Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet.  It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there – buried under the 50,000 thoughts the average person thinks every day.  “ Deepak Chopra
