April blogging #A-Z 2018- F

This post is written for the April blogging #A-Z 2018. I have chosen the theme Books and Authors for this year.
F - Fairy Tales

I picked up F for fairy tales as I had a special fascination for tales – I loved my grandmother telling me some interesting tales and stories which would make me listen with awe and amazement. I would enter the  imaginary world and giving a sense of curiosity and suspense and at the end happiness. The best part of a fairy tale is that they are short sweet and easy to understand and  it always has a happy ending J

How can we forget the Cinderella story; poor girl who is ill-treated by the step mother and step sisters , saved by the  fairy God mother who helps her to fulfill her desire to go for a dance … the rest is a sweet ending of the prince who finds her and live happily ever after. The whole story is so fascinating that children love it, and I still love it too J another favorite story is of snow white and seven dwarfs, which is a tale of a jealous and wicked queen who tries to kill her innocent stepdaughter….

The one story that I had read so many times to my daughter was “The Midas Touch” which is about king Midas who loved gold more than anything else.  This book was fun to read as my daughter got fascinated by the whole concept of everything turning gold, just by a touch…. and how the writer gives a twist by bringing the daughter in the story… even now it amuses me while I write this post of all these stories that brought happiness and joy.

I remember buying books for my daughter when she was in the primary school – she would insist me to tell the story first and then read the book. I picked up popular story books like Red Riding hood, Rapunzel, Hansel &Gretel Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping beauty, The little Mermaid, Aladdin and the wonderful lamp, Pinocchio, The Lion King and so on….

As Dorothy moved on to the high school – I started giving away all the fairy tale books to my nephew’s kids for reading. After  many years now  I picked up this small little book for some light reading and enjoyed reading to my daughter who is now 16 and we had a hearty laugh as we went through the story, reading aloud with expressions and feelings to accompany J This is small little book with 17 short stories in simple language, funny as well as interesting characters with illustrations and lively reliving memorable moments of my life J and encouraging Dorothy to relive her childhood too.

Do you read fairy tales?  What are your thoughts would be happy to hear from you.

Thank you for reading my post,

Be Blessed & Be Happy !!

  1. Ah! Fairy Tales. We all have grown reading these magical tales princesses, kings and queens, dwarfs, dragons, elves, fairies, giants, goblins, mermaids, talking animals and witches from distant lands. I have re-read these with Aaryan and still have quite a few of his fairy tales with me. Like you, I keep giving to kids who come home and show interest in books.

  2. Reading those fairy -tales with beautiful illustrations and a happy endings was too much fun... I totally remember that story of Midas touch... there were two more books that I read constituting fairy tales one of which was translated version of Russian folk tales. Even if I get a copy of that, I would right away start reading them, I liked them so much. I am always on hunt for some good story books for gifting children, to become their favorite aunt. This book may help me in my venture

  4. Oh yeah I love fairy tales and over the recent years there has been so much debate over the female characters in them. I hate these debates and just love them for their dreamy quality where everything is perfect!!
