Every
now and then I keep sorting out the clutter at my table, both at the office and
also at home, while I kept clearing clutter I found some old participation
certificates, which I carefully kept it in a file, while I looked at some of
the participation certificates I found two certificates for participating in
programme called “Vana Mahotsav” which means planting of saplings; it was
almost 25 years ago I was part of a very large group of students who came from
all over our state for a camp for 10days
in the University.
Apart
of the programme was also planting a small sapling of the eucalyptus tree, I
was very proud to be a part of this big event. Today when I walk past the road I
see huge garden of eucalyptus trees grown tall and beautifully swaying, and the
place is filled with its scent, I don’t exactly remember, where I planted, but I
knew that the sapling I planted years ago now has grown into a huge tree, and I recall my friends who were along
with me- how much we enjoyed being together and helping each other in planting
the sapling, today I see the barren place filled with trees, and it gives me so
much joy in just watching it and being aware what a difference it has made it
the place.
I
believe each one of us can make a difference, whatever small contribution it
may be, when putting it together it has a great impact. Those days it was just each one, plant one,
today I see a beautiful place full of trees, there are many opportunities every
day for each one of us, from our situation, we will be the only person who can
make a difference to those around us, today I remind myself that even though I am
only one, I can still do something, I may not be able to do everything in this
world, but that which I can do, I shall do it, for that is my purpose in life,
to live and respond to what I have been called to, and it’s my joy discovering every day what I am meant to be doing.
“I am only one, but still I am one.
I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do
everything, I will not refuse to do something that I can do.” Hellen Keller
