“Every flower reflects devotion, beauty and the eternal strength of women”
Telangana is celebrating Bathukamma which is the festival of flowers. It is said that this is a floral festival celebrated by the women to honor the Goddess Parvati. Another says about women’s unity, love for nature, and often ending with Dusshera.
There is another version that says that this is a nine-day festival to honour womanhood, mother Goddess Gauri, and Telangana’s cultural heritage. Women all over the state actively participate, decorate the flowers which are beautifully displayed and perform traditional ritual and dances. Just like the flowers arranged in layers for this festival, may all women build and uplift their families and communities with grace and resilience.
Bathukamma was celebrated in the campus too; and since our centre got the invitation. I went to represent Sahayam and there was a huge crowd. I watched the women placing the flowers and doing some rituals and then started dancing. It was a great sight to see all the women from the campus, dressed up in bright color saris and dancing to their hearts content. This event was followed by lunch. I had to get back to work as I was expecting a student for counseling.
