Madurai is one of the district of Tamilnadu in India. I have visited this place almost three times for different purpose, and always came back a little more knowledgeable and enlightened.
I remember the first time I went to this place was in December 1996. It was just one year my father passed away and we planned a trip to the shrine of our Lady of Health at Velankanni, tamilnadu and we decided to go further to Madurai for two days.
My
mom, sister, brother in law and my nephew visited Madurai; as I had a Priest
friend who was posted there at that time.
I remember it was a meaningful experience for me – visiting the historic
temples, shopping around and the most beautiful moments were that I celebrated
my birthday at an old age home among the inmates who prayed and sang for
me. I cut the cake and shared with the
senior citizens. Later on I came to Chennai and stayed with my friend and
celebrated New Year with her family.
The
second time I went was from my office; where I worked in the Pastoral Care
section; that focused on psycho spiritual dimensions to health. As part of orienting
myself I went to Madurai and I moved on to Dindigul, Theni and Salem. I did not spend much time in Madurai.
The Third time is last month, wherein I attended a seminar at Madurai with my friend and her daughter. This time was also a pleasant experience and I re-visited Madurai Meenathchiammma temple. I found a lot of changes and loved the smell of jasmines and enjoyed the south Indian breakfast.
