One of the
most difficult things I struggled in my life is to learn to relax. I loved to
be involved and was always busy, I remember even in college, I was so involved
in the NSS (National Service Scheme) which kept us very busy, every year we had
camps for 10 days and I looked forward for these camps, which focused on adult
education, some times planting trees, at other times it would be laying roads or
teaching the slum kids.
When I came
back from college it used to be the church, I would go for the choir practice,
attend bible classes, join the youth group, teach catechism for children (religious
instruction) etc. I continued being so
busy with my life, that I never really took time to relax, I was always ready
to go out, travel and was interested in getting involved in new areas of work,
respond to a emerging issues and even worked in the social sector.
The work
that I did occupied so much of my life that it affected me physically; I was
getting stressed, tensed and burnt out. Its
then that I begin to value relaxation and realized, how important it is to relax!
Now I
permit myself to take regular breaks so that I can come back refreshed and work
with joy!
I have already scheduled my next break!
How about you? hope to hear from you ....
Very right... During the middle years, we hardly take breaks due to different commitments...we need to take time off for rejuvenation...
ReplyDeletesometimes, we are so much caught up running around completing our tasks, we forget to relax... even think why waste time, we can complete a little more work..... thanks for your comments !

DeleteTaking time to do nothing really brings everything into perspective and better focus. I plan to do that very soon (life has been way too busy lately, and that overwhelms the mind and soul). Thank you for this post. I very much enjoyed reading it.

DeleteOh yes, I so agree - taking the time to do nothing is so important in the everyday life..Just allow ourselves the feeling of "being". You write about it so beautifully, thanks for sharing your thoughts, and for the reminder. I so much enjoyed it:-)
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the post ! I love the way you take effort to put beautiful pics on your post, the pondicherry one was very good... thanks !
DeleteNot there yet -- I always said - I'll relax and sleep when I'm dead. :)But I do know it is important so maybe someday.....

DeleteYeah, that's one I need to work on...

DeleteHow well I know how important relaxing is! I had to learn it the hard way, four months recovering from a stroke...

DeleteI am just the same! I have always tried to do too much and I am still learning to take a step back and just breathe.
ReplyDeleteIf one is lucky to be doing work that one enjoys and is passionate about, then work doesn't feel like work. Otherwise, one must take regular breaks to relax and rejuvenate.
